Terms of Use & Conditions of Sale

Last Updated: October 25, 2026

Welcome to SailTech. These Terms of Use and Conditions of Sale ("Terms") govern your access to and use of this website (including all code, documentation, and web tools), as well as the download, purchase, and use of our three product tiers:

  • DIY Firmware & Garmin Connect IQ App: Free downloadable firmware binaries, 3D enclosure models, and the SailorData Garmin Connect IQ watch application.
  • SailorData Pro Software License: A paid digital software license key that unlocks advanced features (such as Polar Performance targets, NMEA to Wi-Fi routing, and Victron Energy BLE integration) on a compatible DIY SailorData Bridge.
  • Pre-Assembled SailorData Hardware Bridge: A physical, plug-and-play hardware unit assembled, tested, and shipped by SailTech with the Pro Software License pre-activated.

1. Seller Identification & Agreement to Terms

This website and its products are operated and sold by:

  • Business Name: SailTech (Carsten Horst)
  • Location: 2670 Greve, Denmark
  • CVR / VAT No.: DK46736230
  • Email: info@sailtech.dk

By browsing this site, downloading our software, placing an order for a Pre-Assembled Hardware Unit or a Pro Software License, or deploying our hardware or software on your vessel, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not purchase, install, or use our products or services.

2. Non-Certification & Marine Safety Disclaimer

SailTech designs, builds, and distributes compact hardware bridges and Garmin watch applications intended as convenience and performance aids for recreational sailors.

NMEA2000® NON-CERTIFICATION DISCLAIMER

The SailorData NMEA2000 to BLE Hardware Bridge (both pre-assembled units and DIY firmware configurations) is NOT formally certified by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA®).

The terms "NMEA" and "NMEA2000" are used on this site solely to describe technical protocol compatibility and standard physical connector configurations.

Navigational Aid Only: Marine navigation and vessel command involve inherent risks. Any secondary display of onboard metrics (whether on a Garmin smartwatch, via the bridge's built-in Web UI, or streamed over NMEA-to-Wi-Fi to third-party apps such as Navionics, OpenCPN, or Savvy Navvy) must be used strictly as an optional reference aid and must never replace official helm instruments, paper charts, or proper watchkeeping.

3. Assumption of Risk & Limitation of Liability

Installing an uncertified third-party device onto a vessel's NMEA2000 marine bus or relying on wireless Bluetooth/Wi-Fi telemetry is done at your own risk and responsibility.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY & DAMAGE ASSUMPTION

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Danish and EU law, SailTech (Carsten Horst) and its suppliers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages resulting from the installation, use, or inability to use our hardware, firmware, or watch application. This exclusion includes, without limitation:

  • Vessel & Bus Equipment Damage: Short circuits, voltage surges, CAN-bus network disruptions, or damage to other connected marine electronics (such as B&G, Raymarine, Simrad, Garmin, or Victron Energy devices) caused by improper installation, wiring faults, moisture ingress, or incompatible network topologies.
  • Navigational Errors & Signal Dropouts: Running aground, collisions, or course deviations resulting from delayed, inaccurate, or missing telemetry readings on your watch or connected Wi-Fi devices.
  • DIY Assembly Risks: Any hardware failure, electrical damage, or malfunction arising from self-sourced ESP32 boards, custom wiring, or user-flashed firmware.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits SailTech's liability where it would be unlawful to do so under mandatory Danish or EU law, including mandatory liability under the Danish Product Liability Act (Produktansvarsloven) or liability for personal injury caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct. Except where mandatory law requires otherwise, SailTech's total aggregate financial liability for any claim arising out of a purchased product shall not exceed the total purchase price paid by you for that specific product.

4. Product Tiers & Software Licensing

4.1 Free DIY Firmware & Garmin Connect IQ App

For sailors choosing the DIY path (flashing our free firmware onto self-purchased ESP32-S3 boards) or using the free SailorData Garmin Connect IQ app:

  • Grant of License: Firmware binaries, 3D enclosure files, and the Connect IQ app are licensed on a non-exclusive, revocable basis for personal, non-commercial use. You may not resell, redistribute, or bundle our compiled firmware binaries into commercial products.
  • Provided "As-Is": Because DIY firmware and the free watch app are provided free of charge, they are supplied strictly on an "AS-IS" and "AS-AVAILABLE" basis without technical support obligations or performance warranties. You are solely responsible for sourcing, flashing, enclosing, and electrically protecting your own DIY hardware.

4.2 SailorData Pro Software License

When you purchase a Pro Software License (or receive one pre-activated with a Pre-Assembled Hardware Bridge):

  • Device-Bound License: Each Pro License key is a single-device, non-transferable lifetime license cryptographically bound to the unique 8-character Bridge Serial Number you provide at checkout (or the serial number of your pre-assembled unit).
  • Customer Responsibility for Serial Number: When ordering a standalone Pro License for a DIY bridge, it is your sole responsibility to enter the exact, correct Bridge Serial Number displayed in your bridge's Web UI. We strongly recommend testing your DIY hardware using the built-in 20-minute free Pro trial mode every time the bridge boots before purchasing a license key.
  • Scope of Use: The license key may only be used on the specific bridge unit for which it was generated and may not be shared, sublicensed, or reverse-engineered.

5. Ordering, Pricing, Payment & Delivery

  • Contract Formation: Placing an order via our website (/order or /order-license) and completing checkout constitutes a binding offer to purchase. A binding contract is formed when your payment is confirmed and you receive an automated order confirmation or license delivery email.
  • Prices & Currency: Prices are displayed in Danish Kroner (DKK) for orders delivered within Denmark and in Euros (€ / EUR) for all other countries. All prices displayed on the checkout pages include applicable Danish VAT (25% moms).
  • Customs & Import Duties (Outside the EU): For physical hardware shipments to countries outside the European Union (e.g., Norway, Switzerland, United Kingdom, or Rest of World), the recipient is responsible for any local import duties, customs clearance fees, and local taxes levied by the destination country.
  • Payment Processing: All payments are processed securely upfront via Stripe. SailTech never views or stores your credit card numbers or payment credentials.
  • Shipping & Delivery (Pre-Assembled Hardware): Physical units are shipped to the address provided at checkout using tracked parcel services (calculated dynamically). Typical estimated delivery time is 1–3 business days within Denmark and 2–7 business days for international destinations. Risk of loss or damage passes to you upon physical delivery of the parcel to your possession.
  • Digital Delivery (Pro Software License): Pro License keys are generated and delivered automatically via email immediately upon confirmation of payment.

6. Right of Withdrawal & Return Policy (14-Day Cooling-Off Period)

If you are a consumer residing in Denmark or the European Union, you have statutory cancellation rights under the Danish Consumer Contracts Act (Forbrugeraftaleloven) and EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU).

6.1 Pre-Assembled Hardware Units (14-Day Return Policy)

  • 14-Day Right of Withdrawal: You have the right to withdraw from your purchase of a Pre-Assembled Hardware Bridge within 14 calendar days without giving any reason. The 14-day period expires 14 days after the day on which you (or a third party indicated by you, other than the carrier) acquire physical possession of the unit.
  • How to Exercise Your Right: Prior to the expiry of the 14-day period, you must notify us of your decision to withdraw by sending a notification via email to info@sailtech.dk (including your name, order reference, and date of receipt).
  • Return Shipment & Costs: You must send the hardware unit back to our address in Greve, Denmark without undue delay and no later than 14 days from the day you communicated your withdrawal. You must bear the direct cost of returning the goods. We do not accept parcels sent "cash on delivery" or shipped to parcel shops without direct delivery to our address. You are responsible for ensuring the unit is securely packaged during return transit.
  • Condition of Returned Goods: You are only liable for any diminished value of the hardware unit resulting from handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics, and functioning of the goods (similar to inspecting an item in a physical store). If the unit shows signs of permanent marine installation, physical modification, opened/tampered enclosure, salt-water exposure, or electrical damage, we reserve the right to deduct the corresponding loss in value from your refund. Upon return of a Pre-Assembled Unit, its bundled Pro License key is permanently deactivated.
  • Refund Process: We will reimburse all payments received from you for the hardware unit (including standard outbound delivery costs, excluding any supplementary costs if you chose a non-standard express delivery method) within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal notice. We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the returned hardware unit back, or until you have supplied evidence of having sent it back, whichever is the earliest. Refunds are issued via Stripe to your original payment method.

6.2 Pro Software License (Digital Content Exception)

  • Immediate Delivery & Loss of Withdrawal Right: Because the SailorData Pro License key is cryptographically generated for your specific Bridge Serial Number and delivered instantaneously via email upon payment—and cannot be remotely revoked or deactivated from an offline marine bridge once issued—by placing an order for a Pro Software License and requesting immediate delivery, you expressly consent to immediate performance and acknowledge that your 14-day right of withdrawal is waived once the license key has been generated and sent to your email.
  • Incorrect Serial Numbers: Please double-check your 8-character Bridge Serial Number before completing checkout. Because keys are permanently tied to the submitted serial number, we cannot refund a license key that has already been issued due to a user-entered typo, though we will gladly assist you if you contact us immediately regarding a genuine mistake.

7. Statutory Warranty & Conformity (Reklamationsret)

We distinguish between free DIY downloads and paid commercial products in accordance with Danish and EU consumer law:

  • 24-Month Statutory Right of Complaint (Paid Hardware & Pro License): If you purchase a Pre-Assembled Hardware Bridge or a Pro Software License as a consumer in the EU/EEA, your purchase is covered by the mandatory 24-month statutory right of complaint (reklamationsret) under the Danish Sale of Goods Act (Købeloven) and EU Directives (2019/771 and 2019/770). This means that if the hardware unit or digital license has a manufacturing defect or lack of conformity that was present at the time of delivery, you are entitled to have the product repaired, replaced, refunded, or receive a proportionate price reduction, depending on the specific circumstances.
  • Reporting a Defect: You must notify us at info@sailtech.dk within a "reasonable time" after discovering a defect. Reporting a defect within two (2) months of discovery is always considered timely.
  • What is Not Covered: The statutory warranty does not cover defects, malfunctions, or damage caused by improper installation on the NMEA2000 bus, incorrect voltage/power wiring, water or salt-moisture ingress (the bridge enclosure is designed for dry interior cabin installation behind the instrument/power panel, not exposed deck mounting), unauthorized hardware modifications, or third-party sensor failures on your vessel.
  • Updates for Digital Content: During the statutory warranty period, SailTech will provide necessary firmware updates required to keep a purchased Pre-Assembled Bridge or Pro License in conformity, which you are responsible for installing via the bridge's OTA update feature.

8. Intellectual Property

All site content, branding, watch UI layouts, vector graphic gauges, firmware code, and software configurations are protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. "SailTech" and "SailorData" are proprietary names of SailTech. "Garmin", "Connect IQ", "NMEA", "NMEA2000", "B&G", "Raymarine", "Simrad", "Victron Energy", "Navionics", "OpenCPN", and "Savvy Navvy" are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners and are referenced strictly for compatibility identification. No affiliation or endorsement is implied.

9. Governing Law, Jurisdiction & Consumer Complaints (ODR)

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Denmark, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. If you are a consumer residing in another EU Member State, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection afforded to you by mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law of your country of habitual residence.

Complaints & Dispute Resolution: If you have a complaint about a purchase, please contact us first at info@sailtech.dk so we can resolve the issue quickly and amicably.
