Welcome to SailTech. These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of my website (including all code, resources, and documentation), my downloadable firmware files, and the assembled physical hardware products.

1. Agreement to Terms

By browsing this site, placing an inquiry, or deploying our hardware/software on your vessel, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you are strictly prohibited from using the products or services and must immediately cease access.

2. Non-Certification & Compatibility Disclaimer

I have designed, built, and can distribute compact hardware bridges and Garmin watch applications intended for sailors.

NMEA2000® NON-CERTIFICATION DISCLAIMER

The SailTech NMEA2000 to BLE Hardware Bridge (and associated DIY firmware configurations) is NOT formally certified by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA®).

The terms "NMEA" and "NMEA2000" are used on this site solely to describe technical protocol compatibility and port configurations.

3. No Warranty & "As-Is" Provision

All hardware units, compiled firmware files, source code repositories, and Garmin Connect IQ application elements are provided on an "AS-IS" and "AS-AVAILABLE" basis without any guarantees or warranties of any kind.

I expressely disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to:

  • Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular sailing layout, or non-infringement.
  • Warranties that the telemetry data displayed on your watch will be 100% accurate, continuous, error-free, or free of signal dropouts.
  • Warranties that the hardware bridge will not experience signal interference or connection drops in high-RF or high-salinity sailing environments.

4. Assumption of Risk & Absolute Exclusion of Liability

Marine navigation and vessel command involve inherent dangers. Any secondary display of onboard metrics (such as on a smartwatch screen) must be used as an optional reference aid only and must never replace official helm instruments, paper charts, or proper watchkeeping.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY & DAMAGE ASSUMPTION

In no event shall the creator (Carsten Horst), or its suppliers be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages resulting from your use of, or inability to use, our hardware or software. This absolute exclusion includes, without limitation:

  • Physical Vessel Damage: Short circuits, fire, voltage surges, network failures, or damage to other marine electronics (such as B&G, Raymarine, or Simrad devices) connected to the same NMEA2000 bus.
  • Navigational Errors: Running aground, collisions, or course deviations resulting from delayed, incorrect, or missing telemetry readings on the Garmin display field.
  • Injury or Loss of Life: Personal injury, casualty, or loss of life occurring during vessel operations while our products are installed.

Installing this uncertified device on your marine bus is done entirely at your own risk and responsibility. If you do not accept this absolute transfer of risk, do not install the bridge on your vessel.

5. DIY Path & Firmware License

For sailors selecting the DIY path (flashing my firmware onto self-purchased ESP32-S3 boards):

  • You are solely responsible for flashing, and protecting, your own hardware assembly.
  • The firmware binaries are supplied for personal use without licensing fees. You may not distribute modified versions of our compiled binaries or claim them as commercial products.
  • I offer no technical support, or troubleshooting guarantees for custom DIY builds.

6. Ordering, Billing, & Shipping

Pre-assembled units ordered via the contact form represent a custom build-upon-request arrangement.

  • Prices: Displayed prices are in Euros (€) and exclude localized shipping and customs fees (if ordering outside the EU).
  • Payment: Payment terms will be arranged individually after I review your inquiry. Orders are not shipped until payment is cleared in full.
  • Returns: Because units are tested individual assemblies, standard commercial consumer returns policies are limited. However, if your unit is non-functional upon initial delivery, contact me within 14 days for assistance or troubleshooting.

7. Intellectual Property

The branding, site layouts, watch UI layout, vector graphic gauges, and overall software configurations are protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. "SailTech" and "SailorData" are proprietary names. "Garmin", "B&G", "Raymarine", and "Simrad" are trademarks of their respective owners.

8. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Denmark, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the courts of Copenhagen, Denmark.
